Lymph node surgery

Posted on November 5, 2019

Pretty straight-forward. Just day surgery, but the first “real” surgery of my life. I was excited.

Fasted, got up early, and went in to surgery around 10am-ish. Josephine was with me every step of the way. She was, however, disappointed they didn’t let her eat junior mints and observe the surgery. ;D

One of my favorite moments was when a doctor came in and asked if we were removing a node in my nose or throat or something. I was like, “shouldn’t you know this!?”. Fortunately, he was just the anesthesiologist, who then casually mentioned how they would stop my breathing during surgery. Wait–waa? It makes perfect sense when you think about it, but still caught me off guard.

The surgery went well. They took a nice chunk out of my right neck to send for pathology. Added bonus he took out my adenoids (since they did show up in the PET). Maybe they could have told me ahead of time? I didn’t even know I had them, and now I kinda miss them. But hey – popsicles.

Hung out in recovery for a bit and went home that day. Got a cool scar and a story.

Next Step: Wait for results… again.

And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.”
